“The ultimate choice you will ever
make, one choice supersedes all others- the ultimate choice. This one choice
will help you to always make correct decisions. This one choice, The Ultimate
Choice, is your keystone to being the best student and person you can possibly
be. This one choice will forever affect you for good more than any other
choice. The Ultimate Choice is: to be a CTR Person – to always Choose The Right.”
Reflection:
This statement has been repeated to me for a year now to
build common sense, a skill for humanitarian belief, a push to strive for
academic success, a push to pursue a spiritual connection with myself and to
become a better human being overall. This quote and this saying will probably
be attached to me forever since it’s an easy quote to remember.

Reflection:
I think what Carlyle is trying to say is that a man without
a goal is absolutely nothing. He has no ambition. He will go nowhere in life.
Just like a ship without a rudder, he won’t go anywhere. He won’t get anywhere
he wants to because he has no goal or ambition. There’s no purpose to it.

Chinese Proverb
Reflection:
What this proverb is basically trying to explain is that if
there in beauty, harmony, and order in the person, that creates a sense of
character. Those are the pillars to the Chinese. It is similar to our proverbs
in a way because they both have to have peace and beauty and order within them
to be a good character.
Six Pillars of Character
Six Pillars of
Character
What are the six pillars?
1.
Trustworthiness
2.
Respect
3.
Responsibility
4.
Fairness
5.
Caring
6.
Citizenship
1.
Trustworthiness:
To be worthy of confidence, dependable
Ex: being honest and reliable.
2.
Respect:
To admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of
their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Ex: Treat other people the way you want to be treated.
3.
Responsibility:
The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or
of having control over someone.
Ex: Take responsibility for your actions. Don't make excuses
or blame others.
4.
Fairness:
It means treating everyone the same.
Ex: Play by the rules.
5.
Caring:
By displaying kindness and concern for others.
Ex: Treat people with kindness and generosity.
6.
Citizenship:
The process of being such a member. It is how we make
society work, together
Ex: Help take care of the environment
Reflection:
I think these are the basic guide to being a good person. If
you are fair, you’re a good person. If you can be trustworthy and responsible,
you’re a good person. There is so many different ways to show how to be a good
person. These pillars are one of many, but these are the original basics.

In a video we watched during class today, we witnessed a miracle. We experienced the life changing action of forgiveness. What happened was a young man back in 2003, named Eric Smallridge, was proven guilty of two DUIs and charged of manslaughter. He crashed into two 20 year old women, Megan and Lisa. He was sentenced to 22 years in jail. Then, after a few emotional letters here and back, Renee, Megan's mother, forgave him. She ended up convincing Lisa's parents as well. They all went down tot he court and demanded to cut Eric's time in half and was released early. Now from this experience, both of the families and Eric's mental and emotional health have been fixed and they feel like themselves again. This is a story everyone should learn from.

Video Response: Western Oregon vs. Central Washington
Video Response
In the video we just watched, we
witnessed sportsmanship. Mallory and Liz
from the opposite team helped carry Sara cross the bases around the baseball
diamond and touched the bases with her left leg. This was her first home run in
all of her softball career. She fell and couldn’t pick herself up because she
landed on her knee. Sara has a thing about people touching her and her coach
became worried because she knew about Sara’s condition. The opposing team’s
players asked her if it’s fine if they can lift Sara and the coach responded
saying yes. Then they went over to Sara asking for her consent. With her
approval the two players lifted her and carried her across the bases to the
dugout. This was a great experience to witness because it showed me how people
should be treating each other during games. Everyone should learn from this
video.

Free My Wardrobe
Free My Wardrobe
As you all know, summer is approaching. The heat has been
extremely unbearable these last few days. Which means less layers of clothing
will be worn. Which also means short shorts and spaghetti straps will be worn
by girls. Now let’s be honest here. I love short shorts and spaghetti straps; I
find comfort in them especially when it’s a hot day. However, what I don’t
appreciate is how my teachers and the administration sexualize my outfit. I don’t
want to be stopped in the hallways and a teacher, female or male, and tell me
to cover up my shoulders when it’s like 90 degrees outside. My shoulders are
not disrupting anybody. My shoulders should DEFINITELY not be a problem in an
area where we have to concentrate on a lesson. Especially when the teacher interrupts
the lesson just to scold me. I have every right to wear what I want to wear. If
a male teacher has a problem with my legs and my shoulders then we do have a
problem. Stop sexualizing women and women’s interest in clothing. It’s hot, you
don’t see us complaining about males taking off their shirt in the middle of
PE. Free my wardrobe, free my rights. No justice, no peace.

St. Patrick wasn't even Irish.
What is the purpose of St. Patrick?
St.
Patrick's Day started out as a feast day for St. Patrick, the patron saint of
Ireland.
Why is St. Patrick’s Day designated when it is?
The date commemorates the day St. Patrick died, believed to

Why a certain color on St. Patrick’s Day?
The color green has a lot of connections to Ireland and
springtime.

Olivet Eagles Football Team
Video Response:
In this video I recently watched, it was a video showing great sportsmanship and equality. On this middle school football team, there was one kid with a mental disability. He never scored a touchdown before in his life. What the football team did was so memorable to this young boy's life. The football team tried going as close as possible to the one yard line, before the touchdown area. They brought out the young boy and when the he said hike, he quickly ran to the touchdown area. His parents were so grateful for the love and care the football team has given the boy. This is a great act of good character.

“They’re only truly great who are
truly good.”
-
George Chapman
Reflection:
When people say “Oh my god, this person is so amazing”, they
don’t really mean it unless the “amazing” person is actually doing a good deed
or has done one. A truly great person is someone who knows how to be an actual
CTR person. Someone who does great things for their community is an example of
a CTR person. Someone who will work they’re very best to strive to be the very
best. I think that’s what Chapman means.
Volunteer Opportunities for High School Students
Volunteering
Opportunities
Dignity Hospital:
In the heart of downtown LA, this hospital opens its doors
for the teens, college students, and adults to help volunteer at this place.
The benefits of becoming a volunteer are personal satisfaction, inclusion in
employee recognition events, and complimentary parking. To apply, you have to
fill out an application. If you have any questions contact Tracy Nordback at
(213)742-5707 or CHMC-Volunteer@dignityhealth.org
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles:
This hospital is specifically only for children. If you’re
interested in becoming a pediatrician, then this would be right for you. You
will not be able to shadow and work directly with a doctor. If you are under
18, you would have to be part of a summer program called Camp CHLA, which
teaches high school students how to do CPR and other things and help around the
hospital. You have to check the requirements, take a survey, and fill out an application.
UCLA Hospital:
Over 300 volunteer positions offer opportunities for
students to explore various health care options. The basic requirement is that
you are 15 and older, agreement to do at least 100 hours of volunteer work
(four hours per week), proof of Varicella, MMR, and TB. You have to conduct a
well typed essay to see if they believe that you are fit for this program.
Long Beach Memorial Hospital:
The requirements must be at least between the ages of 15-17
and a GPA of 3.0 and higher. You have to fill out an application and must be
committed for six months of volunteer work. Two TB tests and influenza
vaccination is required during peak flu season. You will have to attend a
volunteer service orientation twice. And purchase a volunteer uniform a cost of
$23.
Cedars-Sinai Hospital:
This is a teen volunteer program for teens 14-18 wanting to
help others and look for community service experience. They have to be
committed to one year of volunteer work and work the same shift for an entire
session. Teens will perform clinical or clerical duties.

“Many think that the short term gain
will be the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is
cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”
-
George Mitchell
Reflection:
Everything Mitchell has said in the quote above is basically
complete truth. Choose the right by not doing drugs and not cheating. You may
feel the victory and pride at first, but you will have to do the time when
everyone finds out. In the long run, it’ll be something everyone will remember
you by. Being a cheater is nothing to be proud of. Neither is being a drug
abuser. After a while, guilt will catch up to you.

“I won’t cheat.”
-
Dale Murphy
Reflection:
I think what Dale Murphy means by this is no matter what the
situation you are in we will do it with honesty and dignity because it is fair
and it is the right thing to do. Cheating
will literally get you nowhere in life. Maybe a few steps forward, but then it
will send you way back after a long run. Trust me, you don’t want that. You
will get nothing out of cheating.

Oncologist
Duties and Responsibilities:
Physicians and surgeons who evaluate and treat patients
suffering from cancer.
Salary:
$184,820
Education:
Oncologist must have a bachelor’s degree and an accredited license
Reflection:
I wouldn’t like to become an Oncologist because I don’t
think it suits me and I don’t like seeing that many people in pain. There is
only a certain amount of things I can do and I don’t think this is one of them.

“Character Matters Most.”
-
Dale Murphy
Reflection:
I think what Dale Murphy is trying to say is that character
is the most important keys of being a CTR person. Good character defines who
you are, where you came from, who you represent. It’s an amazing blessing to have
good character. Easy things will come your way with good character.
