St. Patrick is a hero and a saint in Ireland. And there are
about 60 churches and cathedrals named for him in Ireland alone. Ironically,
St. Patrick wasn't even Irish.

St.
Patrick's Day started out as a feast day for St. Patrick, the patron saint of
Ireland.
Why is St. Patrick’s Day designated when it is?
The date commemorates the day St. Patrick died, believed to
be in A.D. 461.
Why a certain color on St. Patrick’s Day?
The color green has a lot of connections to Ireland and
springtime.

Shamrocks, those three-leaf clovers, are used to explain the
Holy Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit while trying to convert
people to Christianity.
