“I am not bound to win, but I am not bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”

-          Abraham Lincoln

Reflection:

This quote means that Lincoln is a loyal person. He stands with the person he is involved with thick or thin, when the times get rough he’s always there for support. This quote also means that He will own up to his actions and he will try to do his best to fix the wrong others did.

“Character is higher than intellect.”

-          Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflection:

I do not agree with this statement. It has good meaning, and a good point. But you can be one of the sweetest people in the world, but without intellect, where are you going to go? What is you aim? How will you be successful in your career if you want to become an engineer or someone who works on Wall Street? Having good character will get you far, but being smarter will get your farther.

Reflection:

This quote means that when we do what is right our lives will be much simpler. When we do the wrong our live will be very complicated and won’t know what to do or how to fix it. We will have more independence and freedom  when we have our lives spent on doing the right things.

Brazil:

In Brazil, they’re looking for English teachers that are both fluent in Portuguese and English. English is taught in some schools and universities and is widely spoken in cities.
This is beneficial for both counties because you are learning more from one another. Some jobs offer classes on how to speak Portuguese, so you might learn something from that.

Reflection:

I would LOVE to work in another country. Since I’m part Brazilian I’d like to go back to my roots and it would be nice to see where my grandpa grew up and how everything works over there rather than here in the US.

Free My Wardrobe

Free My Wardrobe

As you all know, summer is approaching. The heat has been extremely unbearable these last few days. Which means less layers of clothing will be worn. Which also means short shorts and spaghetti straps will be worn by girls. Now let’s be honest here. I love short shorts and spaghetti straps; I find comfort in them especially when it’s a hot day. However, what I don’t appreciate is how my teachers and the administration sexualize my outfit. I don’t want to be stopped in the hallways and a teacher, female or male, and tell me to cover up my shoulders when it’s like 90 degrees outside. My shoulders are not disrupting anybody. My shoulders should DEFINITELY not be a problem in an area where we have to concentrate on a lesson. Especially when the teacher interrupts the lesson just to scold me. I have every right to wear what I want to wear. If a male teacher has a problem with my legs and my shoulders then we do have a problem. Stop sexualizing women and women’s interest in clothing. It’s hot, you don’t see us complaining about males taking off their shirt in the middle of PE. Free my wardrobe, free my rights. No justice, no peace.

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day

Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick is a hero and a saint in Ireland. And there are about 60 churches and cathedrals named for him in Ireland alone. Ironically, St. Patrick wasn't even Irish.

What is the purpose of St. Patrick?

St. Patrick's Day started out as a feast day for St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

Why is St. Patrick’s Day designated when it is?

The date commemorates the day St. Patrick died, believed to be in A.D. 461.

Why a certain color on St. Patrick’s Day?

The color green has a lot of connections to Ireland and springtime.

Olivet Eagles Football Team

Video Response:

In this video I recently watched, it was a video showing great sportsmanship and equality. On this middle school football team, there was one kid with a mental disability. He never scored a touchdown before in his life. What the football team did was so memorable to this young boy's life. The football team tried going as close as possible to the one yard line, before the touchdown area. They brought out the young boy and when the he said hike, he quickly ran to the touchdown area. His parents were so grateful for the love and care the football team has given the boy. This is a great act of good character.

“They’re only truly great who are truly good.”

-          George Chapman

Reflection:

When people say “Oh my god, this person is so amazing”, they don’t really mean it unless the “amazing” person is actually doing a good deed or has done one. A truly great person is someone who knows how to be an actual CTR person. Someone who does great things for their community is an example of a CTR person. Someone who will work they’re very best to strive to be the very best. I think that’s what Chapman means.

“Many think that the short term gain will be the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”

-          George Mitchell

Reflection:

Everything Mitchell has said in the quote above is basically complete truth. Choose the right by not doing drugs and not cheating. You may feel the victory and pride at first, but you will have to do the time when everyone finds out. In the long run, it’ll be something everyone will remember you by. Being a cheater is nothing to be proud of. Neither is being a drug abuser. After a while, guilt will catch up to you.

“I won’t cheat.”

-          Dale Murphy

Reflection:

I think what Dale Murphy means by this is no matter what the situation you are in we will do it with honesty and dignity because it is fair and it is the right thing to do.  Cheating will literally get you nowhere in life. Maybe a few steps forward, but then it will send you way back after a long run. Trust me, you don’t want that. You will get nothing out of cheating.

-          Dale Murphy

I think what Dale Murphy is trying to say is that character is the most important keys of being a CTR person. Good character defines who you are, where you came from, who you represent. It’s an amazing blessing to have good character. Easy things will come your way with good character.

Video Response: Mitch McKey

In this video, we watched about a teenage boy who did one of the most respectable acts ever to be done. He won the wrestling championships for his beloved father. Before the father's passing, Mitch wanted to win a title and a match and dedicated it to his dad. By doing so, he would get up 6 o'clock every morning just to lift. He worked so hard to lift. He ended up becoming stronger and stronger tot he point where he almost never lost a fight. He was unbeatable. He won his title all for the dedication of love he had for his father. This is an example of hard work that pays off immensely.

“Great beauty, great strength, and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all.”

-          Benjamin Franklin

Reflection:

I think what Franklin says is that just because you have better things than other people, doesn’t make you superior than them.  By having a good heart you will exceed most people because they don’t see how good it can be to be nice and caring and diplomatic. You might be rich but that doesn’t mean you are a better person. Actions determine who you really are
