Student Success Statement #57

Student Success Statement

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”

-          Dan Dierdorf

Reflection:

What Dan Dierdorf means by this statement is that if he does things correctly, he will succeed. If he keeps on doing them with effort, he will pass.  If he keeps doing them with passion and patience, he will succeed from doing whatever he wanted to do. This is only if the goals he has are CTR goals.

Student Success Statement #56

Student Success Statement

“The most important thing you will ever have is good values.”

-          Dennis Prager

Reflection:

I think what Prager means by this quote is that if you have good values, which are all it really matters. That’s what being a CTR person and an academic champion all is about. Prager means that it’s all where it really matters. If you have good values, then you are a good person.

Video Response:

After watching the video about Prager’s explanation of what good values is, I still don’t know if I agree with him. I mean, yes I agree that good values means to have good morals and manners, but he had this weird example about saving either your dog and a human being. Honestly, I don’t think that’s morals or good values I think that’s a quick thinking moment you have to decide in. In my opinion I would have saved both.  The human can hold onto the dog while I hold onto the human to swim back to shore. I see where Prager is coming from and that’s okay.

Student Success Statement #55

Student Success Statement

“The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.”

-          Dr. Laura Schlessinger

Reflection:

I think what Dr. Laura Schlessinger is saying is incredible. She is saying that if you do the right, not only will it make you feel so much better and give off a physical sense of happiness and reward, inside you’ll be able to feel it too. It’s the most internal phenomenon you can give yourself.  It’s the best reward you can give yourself.

“Dare to stand alone.”

-          Thomas S. Monson

Reflection:

I think what Monson means by this statement is to not be afraid to stand up what you believe in, for what you is trying to protect, or what you are trying to enforce. Never be afraid to stand up alone while others follow along. It’s good to stand out. That’s why you don’t look the same as other people. Push yourself to be different. Stand alone. Stand up for your rights.

Video Response

In a video we watched during class today, we witnessed a miracle. We experienced the life changing action of forgiveness. What happened was a young man back in 2003, named Eric Smallridge, was proven guilty of two DUIs and charged of manslaughter. He crashed into two 20 year old women, Megan and Lisa. He was sentenced to 22 years in jail. Then, after a few emotional letters here and back, Renee, Megan's mother, forgave him. She ended up convincing Lisa's parents as well. They all went down tot he court and demanded to cut Eric's time in half and was released early. Now from this experience, both of the families and Eric's mental and emotional health have been fixed and they feel like themselves again. This is a story everyone should learn from.
